"Tough times never last," says Leclerc

Charles Leclerc is philosophical after claiming his first win since Austin 2024.

The Monegasque scored a lights-to-flag victory at Silverstone, stomping ground of his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, who has gradually been stamping his own authority on the Italian team in recent races.

"Finally!" said Leclerc over the radio as he took the flag, albeit behind the Safety Car. "This one feels particularly good," he added, "even though I wished a bit of more normal ending, but, hard work paid off.

"Tough times never last, only tough people last!" he cried.

"It feels incredible," he subsequently told reporters. "Maybe it did not finish the way I would have dreamed of, but to win after the last few weekends that have been particularly difficult is incredible.

"All the work that we put into trying to get the feeling back in the car... I felt like I had found something yesterday between the Sprint and qualifying, but I had to confirm that today, and today the feeling was back where it needs to be, so I'm so incredibly happy."

Referring to recent races, the Monegasque admitted: "After Monaco, the feeling wasn't there. I crashed in qualifying, then in the race we had an issue, and that ended our race.

"Then, Saturday in Barcelona, the feeling was good, but then I crashed again, so that was very difficult mentally. And then on Sunday, we had an issue with the car, and Austria wasn't so great, but here we managed to put everything together, and I really hope I can keep that momentum going forward. And a huge thank you to the team for having worked so hard."

Of course, there is no doubt that a major contributory factor to the victory was Kimi Antonelli's issue, nonetheless, the win marked Ferrari's 250th victory in the world championship, ironically where the Italian team had scored its first ever world championship win.

"That's 250 wins for Ferrari, and the first was here at Silverstone," Ferrari chairman, John Elkann told Sky Sports Italy. "And this shows how important today is for our history and, above all, for the present and the future.

"When everyone at Ferrari works together, from our great drivers like Charles, who had a great race, like Lewis, to the whole team, both in Maranello and here on the track, great things happen," he added.
